The International Campaign for Tibet is pleased to announce the next edition of Tibetan Empowerment Days, a programme designed to empower Tibetans and Tibet supporters across Europe to advocate for Tibet. The 2025 edition will take place from 22 to 25 September 2025 in Brussels, the heart of the European Union, and is supported by FIDH (International Federation for Human Rights).
As the EU and China just marked the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, this year’s Tibetan Empowerment Days offer a timely opportunity to remind European policymakers that human rights – including in Tibet – must remain at the centre of the EU’s engagement with China. The need for a principled and consistent EU policy has never been more urgent, as Beijing continues to intensify its repression inside Tibet and beyond.
This edition will place a special focus on the succession of the Dalai Lama, who will turn 90 on 6 July 2025. As the Chinese government seeks to impose its own candidate in an attempt to control Tibetan Buddhism, it is vital for the international community, including the European Union, to stand firmly for the Tibetan people’s right to determine their own spiritual leadership, in line with international human rights standards.
Over the course of four days, participants will gain knowledge, skills and connections to become more effective voices for Tibet – within EU institutions and their own national contexts.
Join us in Brussels to make your voice heard and help send a strong message to the European Union: now is the time for concrete action on Tibet!
